Meath County Council is to write to the National Roads Authority (NRA) and ask for confirmation that the council will be indemnified in relation to any future damage to the M3 motorway as a result of pyrite being used in its construction.

The day before the 60km motorway opened, the authority confirmed pyrite was used “as far as we are aware” as filling for embankments. Its use in the construction of some houses in Dublin and Meath has left some home owners with major structural problems. It was agreed that the council would write to the NRA and seek indemnity for any damage to the road.
