A Cork woman who organised shipments of aid to Bosnia during the war there now hopes to have a shipment of food, medical aid and clothing ready to leave for Kosovo within a fortnight.

Ms Carol Wiley, from Carrigaline, has sent two to three containers of aid to Bosnia each year since 1991 and is now collecting food, clothing and money to provide aid directly to ethnic Albanian refugees fleeing Kosovo.

"We've got to do something to help these poor people. This has the potential to prove one of the greatest human tragedies of the 20th century," Ms Wiley said yesterday. She hopes to send a 40-foot container of aid for the refugees to either Albania or Macedonia.
