A series of controlled explosions were carried by the British Army on a suspicious car in Dunmurray just outside Belfast last night.

A police spokesman said that the alert ended with nothing being found.

In a separate incident there were reports of clashes between rival groups of nationalists and loyalists in the Whitewell Road of north Belfast last night.

Petrol bombs were thrown at the police but there are no reports of injuries or damage during the disturbances.
