A member of the Guildford Four, Mr Gerry Conlon, is suffering from depression, a court was told yesterday.

Mr Conlon (42), failed to answer his bail at Belfast Magistrates Court on charges of assaulting a policeman and causing a breach of the peace. His solicitor said a medical certificate indicated that Mr Conlon was suffering from depression and neurosis.

Mr Conlon, from Belfast, has been on remand since May when the RUC was called to a house party in the Lower Falls. The resident magistrate said he would adjourn the charges for a week. Similar charges against three women were adjourned until October 14th.
