Manila - A controversial Philippine congressman, Mr Rodolfo Aguinaldo, who was involved in coup attempts against former president Corazon Aquino, was shot dead by unidentified assailants, the military said yesterday.
Mr Aguinaldo was shot twice in front of his home in the northern town of Tuguegarao and died in hospital two hours later, Brig Gen Edilberto Adan said. Reports said Mr Aguinaldo's security escort was also killed by the three gunmen, who fled after the shootings.
