The Norbertine order's public apology to the victims of Father Brendan Smyth was not a sufficient response to his shocking and catastrophic impact on the lives of his victims, the Fine Gael TD, Mr Alan Shatter, said last night. The order should acknowledge its responsibility to compensate financially all those who were sexually abused. "It should publicly accept its liability to pay compensation and announce the establishment of a compensation fund," he said.
