BRITISH BAND Coldplay are to top the bill for this year’s Oxegen festival which will also include The Strokes, Deadmau5, The National and the home grown talents of The Script.
The event, which will take place from July 8th to 10th in its usual environs at Punchestown, Co Kildare, will be an Oxegen festival first for Grammy and Brit-award winning band Coldplay, who are also headlining Glastonbury this year.
Meanwhile, The Strokes will return to Ireland following a break from touring and will no doubt feature songs from their widely acclaimed 2001 debut album Is This Itas well as from their forthcoming fourth album Angels.
The line-up will also include Deadmau5, the 28-year-old Canadian-born electro-house producer and American supergroup The National. The Foo Fighters, Black Eyed Peas, Arctic Monkeys and Paolo Nutini are also on board for this year’s festival – and if none of these names are ringing any bells it’s probably advisable to leave your wellies behind you that weekend.
Some new sounds from familiar faces will also feature. Brandon Flowers, the Killers frontman, will be going solo for his Oxegen appearance, while Beady Eye – the band formed by ex-Oasis member Liam Gallagher – are also due to take to the stage.
New entries to the line-up include Brit’s Critics Choice award winner Jessie J, Swedish House Mafia, Gem Archer and Andy Bell, My Chemical Romance, Weezer, Pendulum, Plan B, Tinie Tempah and festival favourites Primal Scream.
Tickets are now on sale, with weekend tickets costing between € 199.50 for three days, no camping, and € 244.50 for four-day camping tickets, while day tickets are also available and cost € 99.50. Tickets can be bought through ticketmaster.ie and through its agents nationwide. A full line-up can be found at oxegen.ie.
