An investigation is underway after Customs officers seized cocaine worth more than €150,000 at Shannon Airport last night.
More than two kilograms of the drug was discovered during a routine search of an aircraft at the airport. Officers from the Revenue’s Customs Service found the drugs hidden in an overhead lighting unit.
No arrests have yet been made.
The latest haul, which has an estimated street value of €158,000, is the third within the past seven days.
On Wednesday, officers at Dublin Airport seized 1kg of cocaine and arrested a 40-year-old Portuguese man, while two women were detained on Tuesday following the discovery of 3kg cocaine with an estimated street value of €210,000 and 20 kilograms of cannabis worth €240,000 at Dublin Airport.
