WASHINGTON - President Clinton and his wife owe $1.7 million in Whitewater related legal bills and the debt has grown substantially in the past six months, administrators of their legal defence fund said.
Mr Clinton told reporters in January that he was technically broke from legal bills. Since that time, "unfortunately, it's worse", said Mr Michael Cardozo, executive director of the Presidential Legal Expense Trust.
