Clare 3-18 Laois 1-11
Clare recorded a comfortable 3-18 to 1-11 win over Laois in their opening match of the NHL Division One A season at Cusack Park this afternoon.
Niall Gilligan was instrumental in Clare's success and it was his accuracy in the first half, when leading the front line, which effectively ended the game as a contest by the interval.
Gilligan scored 1-06 in the first period to give the All-Ireland finalists a 1-08 to 0-3 lead going into the break.
Daithi O'Connell made an equally positive impact in the second half, putting 2-01 points on the board to end any hopes Laois had of getting back into the game.
Elsewhere Wexford ran out expected winners over Derry by 2-16 to 1-14 in their Division One B clash at Celtic Park.
