A financial controller who claimed she had been assaulted and beaten on a day trip to Holyhead on the MV Innisfree has settled her £30,000 damages claim against Irish Ferries Ltd for an undisclosed amount.

Mr John Nolan, counsel for Ms Suzanne Duffy, of Oldtown Park, Santry, told Dublin Circuit Civil Court she was injured when a row broke out in the bar of the ferry in June 1997.

Mr Nolan, outlining the case to the Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Esmond Smyth, said Ms Duffy had been knocked to the ground during a fight among about 25 men. Bottles had been flying through the air. When Mr Justice Smyth indicated the court would take a serious view of such evidence unless rebutted by Irish Ferries, a settlement was announced after a brief adjournment.
