The season of ordinations begins on Thursday, which is Ascension Day, when six deacons will be raised to the priesthood.
In St Fin Barre's Cathedral, the Bishop of Cork, the Right Rev Paul Colton, will ordain the Rev Daniel Nuzum, curate in the Bandon union of parishes, and the Rev Peter Massey, who is serving in Fermoy as a member of the auxiliary ministry.
The Bishop of Cashel and Os sory, the Right Rev John Neill, will ordain two deacons in St John the Baptist Cathedral in Cashel. The Rev Derek Sargeant is a curate in the Waterford Cathedral group of parishes and the Rev Ian Coulter is an auxiliary curate in the Kilkenny group of parishes. The Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, Dr James Mehaffey, will ordain the Rev Garth Bun ting, curate in Clooney, and the Rev Kenyon Homfray, curate in Convoy.
Today the church's ministry of healing will hold a millennium healing conference in Belfast where the speakers will be the Bishop of Tuam, Dr Richard Henderson, and Canon Ian Ainsworth Smith, chaplain of St George's Hospital, London, and a well-known writer on pastoralia.
The Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Walton Empey, will preach at the Dublin and Glendalough GFS Festival Service in Donough more, Co Wicklow, while in Co Donegal, the Meath Diocesan Choir will give a concert in Holy Trinity church, Carrigart.
Tomorrow morning, in the University Concert Hall, Limerick, the Bishop of Limerick and Killaloe, the Right Rev Edward Darling, will celebrate a companions in jubilee eucharist at which the proceeds of a millennium jubilee appeal will be dedicated. The proceeds of the appeal are to support the work of two hospitals and two schools in Malawi.
RTE will televise a service from Kill o' the Grange parish, Dublin, where the rector is the Rev Ferran Glenfield; in St Catherine's and St James's Church, Dublin, the Bishop of Tuam will be the Rogation-tide preacher. In Rathdowney, Co Laois, the Bish op of Cashel and Ossory will preside at a service for the 50th anniversary of the Mothers' Union.
On Sunday evening in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, there will be a concert to mark the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Diocese of Christchurch, New Zealand, in which the then Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Richard Whateley, was involved. The focus of the concert will be a performance of music which was written for the occasion by English composer Francis Grier, entitled Around the Rim of the World.
On Wednesday evening the Odin Choir from Gothenburg will give a recital in St Patrick's Church, Greystones, while in Kill O' the Grange Church, the Robert E. Lee High School Chorale from Texas will give a recital in aid of the roof fund. In Cashel Cathedral, there will be a concert by the Albany Chamber Singers from New York in aid of the Bolton Library.
From Friday until Monday, Powerscourt 2000, a festival conference weekend, under the auspices of City Outreach through Renewal and Evangelism, will take place at Powerscourt House, Co Wicklow.
