Versailles - A French court ruled yesterday that President Jacques Chirac could not be investigated while in office for a jobs scam at Paris city hall when he was mayor, but may face prosecution when his term ends.

The Versailles appeals court ruled that the constitution barred prosecution of the president while in office, but said this privilege ended with the presidential term.
