A child is being tested for the swine flu virus, influenza A (H1N1), at Kerry General Hospital today.

Some 12 cases of the flu have been confirmed in Ireland, but none are in the HSE South region.  A spokeswoman for the health service said it was not commenting on the matter.

No case had been yet been confirmed in Tralee, she added.

However it is understood the child, who recently returned from a trip to the westeren USA, is in isolation at the hospital and is receiving precautionary treatment.
