A verdict of death by misadventure was recorded by the Dublin City Coroner, Dr Brian Farrell, at an inquest yesterday into the death of a young Kerry girl of a complication following a routine operation for the removal of adenoids. Deirdre Keane, aged three years and eight months, of Cragg, Rathanny, Tralee, died at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, on 29th April last, two days after the operation at the Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee. A post-mortem by Dr Michael McDermott showed she died due to swelling of the brain caused by hyponatraemia or low sodium in the blood serum.
