Chelsea have posted a loss of £6.83 million sterling for the year ending June 2001.

Chelsea have posted a loss of £6.83 million sterling for the year ending June 2001.

Turnover shrunk over 10 per cent as the Stamford Bridge outfit came to terms with the loss of Champions League soccer, an early exit from the UEFA Cup and the dismissal of then-manager Gianluca Vialli.

Although chairman Ken Bates admitted the results were disappointing, he said the club is in a strong position to reverse this year's losses after a decade of regeneration at the club.
