Chelsea's all-stars crushed hapless Wolves 5-0 at Molineux today to go top of the FA Barclaycard Premiership.

Claudio Ranieri's men were just too good for the struggling Black Country outfit, and were in charge from the start.

Frank Lampard opened the scoring with a superb strike on 17 minutes.

And then Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, restored to the starting line-up in place of Hernan Crespo, added a second on 36.

Damien Duff made it 3-0 after the interval and Crespo, on as sub for Hasselbaink, got his first two goals for the club to complete the rout.

Chelsea made their intentions known from the very start, quickly establishing a firm control on the game.

They were unfortunate not to go ahead on 10 minutes when John Terry had a goal ruled out - somewhat harshly it appeared.

The England centre-half headed goalwards from a right-wing corner and the ball struck the helpless Eidur Gudjohnsen on the arm.

Terry picked up the rebound and lashed it into the net but the goal was disallowed for handball.

The reprieve was only brief for Wolves, as the visitors did take the lead seven minutes later.

Lampard cut in from the right and hammered a superb left-footer past Michael Oakes from 20 yards out.

More chances came and went before the Blues finally capitalised on their territorial advantage by making it 2-0 on 36 minutes.

Duff linked up smartly with Gudjohnsen before sliding a super through pass into the path of the speeding Hasselbaink.

He scuffed his shot slightly but it was still good enough to beat Oakes and find the corner of the Wolves net.

If the home side thought the second half would be any easier they were wrong as Chelsea went 3-0 up within seven minutes of the restart.

A sublime move ended with Duff sliding home Gudjohnsen's low cross for a superb goal.

Chelsea got their fourth on 67 minutes when a low cross from Duff found Crespo, who had only been on the pitch for a couple of minutes.

He fired home to notch his first goal for the club and confirm them as new leaders of the Premiership - above Arsenal on goals scored.

There was still time for Crespo to add his second of the day in injury time, a superb angled finish from a Lampard pass.

Wolves did try hard to gain some consolation with Joey Gudjonsson and Henri Camara both going close and Paul Butler and Steffen Iversen striking the woodwork.

But the gulf between the two teams was massive and Dave Jones faces a daunting task to save his team from a quick return to Nationwide One.
