It was a winning start for all three of Ireland’s representatives in the Celtic League this evening.
Most impressive of the three was Ulster’s 19-0 white wash of Ebbw Vale in the Welshmen’s backyard. Paddy Wallace was the only tryscorer for Ulster with the rest of the points coming from the boot of David Humphries.
Leinster made harder work of their encounter with Pontypridd at Donnybrook showing flashes of their usual selves to secure the points and the bonus to boot with a 31-18 scoreline.
Connaght completed the threesome at Selkirk, albeit by one point, when they beat Borders by 28 points to 27. Connaghts only try came from replacement prop Don McFarland while the rest of the points were shared between the kicking talents of Eric Elwood and Mark McHugh. The latter sealing the win with a dramatic late drop goal.
