INVESTIGATION:GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING the crash in which four teenagers died near Killarney, Co Kerry, believe the car in which they were travelling may have been driven around the area for some time before the fatal incident.

A Garda spokesman yesterday said they were still “trying to put all the pieces of the jigsaw together” in their efforts to trace the movements of the silver Hyundai Accent in the hours preceding the crash at Carrigeen, on the Killarney to Mallow road.

“The public have been very helpful up to now and we’re following a number of definite leads, but we still have not put the full sequence of events in place,” he said.

The car went out of control while taking a sweeping bend, about 6km from Killarney, and crashed into a tree, at 7.10am on Wednesday.

Gardaí appealed to anyone who saw the 10 -year-old car in the general Killarney area between Tuesday midnight and the time of the incident, to get in touch with them.

They are particularly interested in any sightings of the car between the eastern roundabout on the Killarney bypass and Barraduff village.

Gardaí are also trying to piece together the movements of the five people in the car on the night before the crash, which happened halfway between Killarney and Barraduff.

The wrecked car is currently being examined by technical experts and gardaí are also seeking to establish how the teenagers came to be in possession of the vehicle, which was not owned by any of them.

The sole survivor of the crash, Darragh Jones (16), of Killeagh, Farranfore, Co Kerry, is in a stable condition in Kerry General Hospital, Tralee, and will be interviewed by gardaí when his condition improves.

Meanwhile, people are still visiting the crash scene where they are placing flowers and praying for the victims.
