US President George Bush said today the United States had yet to make a link between anthrax attacks in America and Osama bin Laden's network.

"I don't have knowledge of a direct link to the enemy," Mr Bush said. "But I wouldn't put it past them."

But at a news conference with Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Mr Bush raised the possibility of homegrown terrorism in the attacks.

"I want to say this as clearly as I can, that anybody in America who will use this opportunity to threaten our citizens, will think it's funny as a hoax to put out some kind of threat, will be held accountable and will be prosecuted," Mr Bush said.

Mr Bush came to Shanghai for an Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit despite an anthrax scare sweeping parts of the US.
