A Sinn Féin councillor has been sent a bullet inside a Valentine's Day card.
Mr Paul Butler, a member of Lisburn Borough Council in Co Antrim, moved into a new home just a fortnight ago. He said he had received threats at two previous addresses which were in the public domain, but not his new one.
"It is all very worrying. I don't know what to do about it," he said yesterday. He said he would have to decide whether to move again.
Mr Butler said he had given his address to the Key Persons' Protection Scheme when he made an application for inclusion in the scheme, and that it would then have been passed on to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
As a member of the scheme, he would be offered reinforced doors and windows at his home as part of improved security arrangements.
Meanwhile, the PSNI has said a number of people in the greater Belfast area have been warned that their names and addresses are in the hands of loyalist paramilitaries.
The alert is linked to the recovery of a computer disk in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim. A PSNI spokeswoman said: "A number of people have been advised over the past two weeks to take steps to review their security arrangements."
