However, many farmers complained that a telephone line set up to book their cattle for slaughter was constantly busy. The chief executive of the Northern Ireland Meat Exporters Association, Mr Cecil Mathers, appealed for them to remain calm. "They will get through to the telephone line eventually," he said.
