A British insurance broker is offering insurance policies for victims of the human equivalent of BSE, which would pay out at least £25,000.

GRIP, a company which deals in disability and redundancy packages, said it was responding to "mass public concern" over the disease.

The policy offers a lump sum payment on diagnosis of Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (CJD).

The company's broking director, Mr Geoff Arber, said they were offering lump sums to CJD victims "because of the close proximity of death following disability".
