A British soldier was killed and two others wounded in a suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan, according to the British Ministry of Defence.

The attack happened in Kabul yesterday, when the attacker rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into a patrol as it was moving through the capital.

The death raises the number of British troops killed in Afghanistan to 115 since it joined the US-led invasion of the country in late 2001.

Britain has a small contingent of soldiers in Kabul, but most of the 8,000-strong deployment in Afghanistan is based in Helmand, a southern province that has been the focus of intense fighting with the Taliban.
