A British woman on a backpacking holiday in Thailand has been found dead today.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said the woman, from Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, was found dead in the village of Amphur Muang, in Khon Kaen district.
She has not been named and the circumstances of her death are a mystery.
The spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that the body of a British national woman was found in a private house in a village in north Thailand.
"The next of kin have been informed and we will offer any assistance we can to the family.
"The British Embassy is keeping in close contact with the Thai police investigating the woman's death."
She said a post mortem examination would be carried out.
