The British government will recognise a coalition of Syrian rebel forces as the country's official representative, foreign secretary William
Hague said today.
Mr Hague told the Commons the National Coalition of the Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces is now viewed by the UK Government as the "sole legitimate representative" of the country, as he outlined plans to send its people £2 million of British aid.
He did not rule out deploying British troops to the region, telling MPs any option would be considered by ministers if it prevented further loss of life.
