The Home Office said last night that a review of security arrangements is under way across Britain, amid concerns about the direction of the Northern Ireland peace process. It said the review was in line with the government's policy of continuous monitoring of the potential threat from terrorism.
A spokesman said ministers had no information suggesting any terrorist group was planning an attack: "There is a review of security under way, but there has been no specific threat from any individual terrorist group that has led to this action."
Earlier this week security forces in Uruguay were reported to have foiled a terrorist mission to London by Egyptian extremists.
