The European bridge championships will be held in Malta from June 13th to 26th. Ireland will be represented in the open teams by Tom Hanlon, Dr H. McGann, Dr G.M. Keaveney, Rory Timlin, Niall Toibin, Pat Walshe, and Adam Mesbur (non-playing captain).
Senior teams: Seamus Dowling, Paul Hanratty, Cait Flavin, John Godden, and Sean O Lubaigh. Women's pairs: Pat Meehan, Petra O'Neill; Elva Gannon, Pauline Maguire; Heidi Lillis, Teresa Rigney.
The Irish Bridge Union's team championship for the Egan Trophy will take place in the Mourne Golf Club, Co Down, on June 12th-13th. The agreed representation is four teams from the Contract Bridge Association of Ireland, and two from the Northern Ireland Bridge Union.
The CBAI national mixed team championship (Coen Trophy), played at the Greystones Centre, Co Wicklow, was won by J.P. MacHale, C. Higgins, C.A. Cummins, and J. Noonan. Runners-up were K. McGarry, F. Kelly, P. O'Reilly, and A. Condron. The third prize went to S. Costello, M. Walsh, B. and H. Sheridan. The prize for the best third session was won by T. Walsh, H. and J. Carroll, and H. Dowling-Long.
Gala open pairs, to help provide funds for the Marian College women's water-polo team, will be run in the Regent, 25 Waterloo Road, Dublin 4, on June 13th (7.30 p.m.). Valuable prizes will be awarded. The entry fee of £10 per player includes fork supper, and wine. If space permits entries will be accepted on the spot.
