To the two people who have written in, nominating Ed's Red, Tempranillo, La Mancha, 1997 (Tesco, £4.99) in our Readers' Wine Competition, I have to say: sorry, it's not a runner because it has featured in this column before, a couple of summers ago. But the 1997 is a terrific buy - a peppery, punchy, Spanish extrovert, flavour-packed for under a fiver.
"A great house wine - good for guzzling," as one reader says. Best with food.
