Hundreds of staff at pharmacy chain Boots may strike this month over alleged pay cuts and changes to terms and conditions.

The trade union Mandate, which represents about 700 of Boots Ireland’s estimated 1,700 employees, yesterday served notice of industrial action and said workers would place pickets on all Boots stores in Ireland on November 28th.

The company said the decision was disappointing.

Members of Mandate last week voted by a margin of 64 per cent in favour of strike action, with the union accusing Boots of exploiting Irish workers by seeking a 15.5 per cent wage cut at the top scale of pay from €14.20 to €12 per hour. It also claims the firm is seeking a 25 per cent cut in bank holiday pay and Sunday premiums and for employees to work more weekend shifts.
