New Delhi - India's highest court dropped contempt-of-court proceedings yesterday against award-winning author Arundhati Roy after she took part in a protest against the building of a controversial dam.

But the Supreme Court issued a "show cause" notice to Roy, asking her to explain why she should not face contempt proceedings over an affidavit she lodged in response to the initial contempt case.
