Algiers - A small bomb exploded in a busy street in the centre of the Algerian capital yesterday, wounding at least 34 people.
It was the first bomb attack in the city in two years. The device went off in a narrow street of the populous lower Casbah district near a stall selling cosmetics and underwear.
Violence in the vast North African country began in 1992 after authorities cancelled a general election which a now-outlawed Muslim fundamentalist party was poised to win. More than 100,000 people have been killed since.
