Gardaí have recovered the body of a fisherman whom they believed slipped and drowned while returning to his boat in Crosshaven, Co Cork, last night.

The body of the man in his late 30s was recovered from near the pier in Crosshaven at around 11am after being spotted in the water by a passerby.

Gardaí confirmed the man was last seen alive last night after attending a funeral earlier in the day and they believe he was returning to his boat when he fell into the sea.

The man’s body has been removed to Cork University Hospital where Assistant State Pathologist, Margaret Bolster will carry out a postmortem this afternoon.
