The body of an angler, Mr Tom Ryan (70) of Braemor Avenue, Churchtown, Dublin, was recovered from the River Moy, Co Mayo, yesterday afternoon. Mr Ryan was on a fishing holiday in the West and was staying with relatives in Castlerea, Co Roscommon.

When he did not return on Wednesday night, the alarm was raised and, after an extensive search, his body was recovered by members of the Ballina-based Grainne Uaile Sub-Aqua Club.

The body was taken to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, yesterday evening for a post-mortem examination.
