Fisherman off the west coast of Co Clare have recovered the lower half of a man's body.
The remains were caught up in trawler nets 10 miles west of the Aran Islands.
A Garda spokeswoman said the remains appear to have been in the water for some time.
The body has been taken to University College Hospital in Galway where a post mortem will be carried out.
The spokeswoman said it may be some time before the remains are identified and gardaí are checking missing persons files.
