DESPITE widespread speculation that he was already in Ireland, Bishop Eamon Casey did not appear last night at the removal in Cork of his sister, Mrs Nuala Coghlan, Dick Hogan reports.
A large number of mourners were present at the Lough Church in Cork when Mrs Coghlan's remains arrived for the funeral. However, Mgr Denis O'Callaghan, a close friend of Dr Casey, had already said the bishop would not be travelling to Cork for the funeral service or the removal because of the huge amount of publicity he received in March 1994, when he concelebrated Mass on the occasion of the death of Mr Padraig Coghlan, Mrs Coghlan's husband.
Mrs Coghlan's burial will take place today following 11 a.m. Requiem Mass.
