London - A woman described as Britain's most prolific bigamist was yesterday jailed for 15 months after three Appeal Court judges ruled her original 15-month suspended sentence "unduly lenient".

Susan Coates (32) Peckham, south London, will be spending Christmas behind bars after the judges ruled her non-custodial sentence had "sent quite the wrong message" to the public as to the gravity of her offences. Coates married seven illegal immigrants between June, 1995, and August, 1996, the court was told. But her friend and co-defendant, Alison Morgan (33) Kilburn, north London, who entered into one bogus marriage, was spared jail because of her "remarkable" rehabilitation.
