The biggest private hospital group in the State has lodged a £6.3 million offer to buy out Galvia Hospital, the only private health-care facility in Galway.

Details of the Bon Secours Health System bid were released by the Galvia board of management to shareholders on Wednesday night, but it is expected to take some weeks before they reach a decision.

The Bon Secours group operates 650 beds in its four existing private hospitals in Cork, Kerry, Tuam and Dublin.
