Karachi - Pakistan's main opposition leader and former prime minister, Ms Benazir Bhutto, said yesterday she had been barred from leaving the country.

Ms Bhutto told reporters at Karachi airport that it was the first time in Pakistan's history that a former prime minister had been stopped from going abroad.

"They are exploiting the emotions of a mother," Ms Bhutto said with tears in her eyes. She was attempting to fly to Dubai to see her two daughters and one son who live there, her lawyer, Mr Farooq Naek, said.
