The RUC has launched a murder inquiry after a woman was found strangled in her home in Carncaver Road in the Clonduff area of east Belfast. The body of Ms June Smyth (42) was found by her mother.

Police say Mrs Smyth was in poor health and would not have been able to defend herself. The spokesman said police were investigating the possibility that a burglary took place. Her car - a metallic green/blue Seat Cordova - was found off Rugby Avenue in south Belfast.
