David Beckham is in talks with Marks and Spencer over endorsing its World Cup 2002 merchandise, the retail chain has confirmed.

A Marks and Spencer spokesman said today talks were under way but that nothing had been finalised with the Manchester United star.

Beckham's spokesperson was not immediately available for comment on the Marks and Spencer deal.

His fashion statements in the past have included wearing a sarong and opting for a mohican haircut. According to England team mate Gareth Southgate, Beckham has also had a say in the design of the kit for this summer's World Cup.
