BBC Northern Ireland names new controller

A senior executive (40) at BBC Northern Ireland was today appointed as its new controller.

A senior executive (40) at BBC Northern Ireland was today appointed as its new controller.

Peter Johnston will take over as controller of BBC Northern Ireland in November from Anna Carragher, who will retire after six years in the job.

Mr Johnston is currently the head of broadcasting at BBC Northern Ireland.

The new controller said: "It is an honour to be given this incredible opportunity and I look forward to working with all the staff at BBC Northern Ireland to meet the many challenges ahead," he said.

Pat Loughrey, director of BBC Nations and Regions, said the new controller's knowledge of the Northern Ireland audience was second to none.
