Sheikh Abdulrahman Al Khalifa is "exploring a number of options" regarding a financial investment with Leeds United.

The Bahraini Sheikh has neither ruled in or ruled out a possible deal with the debt-ridden club, who are reportedly close to going into administration.

A statement to the Stock Exchange read: "Further to recent press speculation and comments attributed to His Excellency, the Sheikh confirms that he is at an early stage in exploring a number of options to assist the Company [Leeds United plc] in its present financial position that may or may not lead to an offer being made for the Company's issued share capital. A further announcement will be made as appropriate."

The sheikh was quoted over the weekend on the L'Equipe website, www.lequipe.fr, as saying: "It's a group of investors in the Gulf, not only Bahrain, that I direct myself that is going to take over the English club."
