Bat walks, boat trips and classes on organic growing feature in a varied programme for this year's ESB Lough Ree Environmental Summer School.
The summer school takes place from July 12th to 15th in Lanesborough, Co Longford, and among those who will facilitate classes are Eanna Ni Lamhna, a botanist and regular contributor to RTE radio and television; writer and broadcaster Dick Warner; and bird expert Richard Collins.
Organised by the Lough Ree Development Co-op to give people a hands-on environmental education in an outdoor setting, it attracted over 700 participants from home and abroad last year and greater numbers are expected this year, according to spokesman Mr Pat Collum.
"Rather than dealing with abstract issues, the emphasis is on imparting practical advice and incorporating the experience into everyday life," he said.
Participants can choose to attend all four days of the summer school or just a half-day field trip which interests them. The full brochure of events is available at wwww.lough-ree.com
