The jury in the case of a Co Down man accused of attempting to rape an elderly woman was sent home yesterday during legal submissions. It was told by Belfast Crown Court judge, Mr Justice Shell, that certain legal matters required to be discussed in its absence and it would not be required for at least a week.

Mr Patrick Samuel Cross (27), from Moneyslane Road, Ballyward, denies attempting to rape the woman, who was then 79, and assaulting her with intent to rape. The attack occurred shortly after midnight on May 28th, 1995.
