A bus plunged off a road and over a cliff in mountainous northern Argentina late on Sunday, killing at least 35 people, many of them children, police and hospital officials said today.
"There were 62 passengers on the bus and at this time there are 35 dead," a federal police spokesman said.
The crash happened around 10 p.m. (4 a.m. Irish time) on Sunday near La Merced, in the Andean province of Catamarca, 675 miles northwest of Buenos Aires. The bus fell 100 feet, police said.
Twenty-five injured people had been found and search parties continued to scour the area for remaining passengers, provincial police said.
