A bus drove into a ditch in central Russia and overturned this morning, killing at least 22 people and injuring 38, emergency officials said.

Sixteen of the injured were hospitalised, said a duty officer at the Emergency Situations Ministry.

The accident happened this morning as the minibus traveled from the village of Taneyevo to the village of Kanash in the republic of Chuvashia, a region 325 miles east of Moscow, officials said.
