A Dublin woman had to undergo emergency surgery and at one stage was not expected to survive an assault on her, a special sitting of Tullamore District Court was told yesterday. Insp John Dunleavy vigorously opposed bail for the accused, Mr Brian Power (19) of no fixed abode.
Mr Power was charged with assaulting the woman at Harbour Street, Tullamore, on August 2nd, and with assault causing her harm. The court heard that Mr Power was unemployed and he was granted free legal aid. His solicitor, Mr J. Brophy, said his client was 19 and was prepared to live with a cousin in Tullamore. Judge William Hamill remanded Mr Power in custody until August 10th.
Also before the court was Mr Power's cousin, Mr Danny Power (20), with addresses at Arden View and Church Street, Tullamore. He was also remanded until August 10th on charges of assaulting a man at Harbour Street, Tullamore on August 2nd.
