Artillery shells made safe in Kerry

A number of old artillery shells were made safe this afternoon by an army bomb disposal team on Rossbeigh Beach in Co Kerry.

A number of old artillery shells were made safe this afternoon by an army bomb disposal team on Rossbeigh Beach in Co Kerry.

The team were called in by gardaí to the beach which is about 25 km west of Killarney.

Theyarrived on scene at 12.30pm and carried out a controlled explosion which destroyed a number of shells in place. They are thought to date from the early part of the last century.

The scene was declared safe at 2pm.
