In 1971 the Carton y Papel de Mexico company commissioned a print each from 10 Mexican artists in a project that eventually grew into the considerable Artes Graficas Panamericanas Collection. Now, 150 prints from the collection have been donated to IMMA by the Jefferson Smurfit Group. Sixty of those prints are currently on view in a vibrant exhibition at IMMA. Chiefly comprising late-20th- century work by Latin American artists, the show features some well known names, including Cuban Wilfredo Lam, Uruguayan Leopoldo Novoa, Chilean Roberto Matta and Mexican Alberto Gironella. Hugely diverse in style and content, a great deal of the work shares "a belief in the social purpose and responsibility of the artist" and frequently displays a concern with issues of national identity.
